ECAN membership, activities, current office bearers

If you are an architect and you are interested in attending a meeting to get an impression of ECAN and how it works, you can attend one of our monthly meetings as a guest. To get the date of the next meeting look at our CPD programme or contact our secretary.

To join ECAN you must be a member of the RIAS. On joining, you will be required to pay an introductory fee of £25.00, and an annual membership of £50.00, renewable in March of each year.

Membership entitles you to the following benefits:

  • discounted entry into the RIAS Directory of Practices
  • link to your own web-site from the ECAN site
  • participation in the ECAN reciprocal arrangements (as required by ARB)
  • access to a 40-plus member wide discussion group where you can raise technical questions or air your concerns or anxieties amongst your colleague architects and benefit from their contribution to your problems
  • right to attend the ECAN monthly meetings which often include a free 1 hour CPD presentation
  • all time spent at ECAN meetings counts towards your annual CPD requirements
  • the opportunity to take advantage of discounted PI insurance rates
  • direct contact with the public by participating in the ESPC helpdesk (Edinburgh Solicitors Property Centre)
  • share access to special data or computing resources (eg: NBS, Owens-Corning heat-loss software)

Membership does not provide the following:

  • there is no annual ball, for that you have to join the EAA.
  • there is however, a Christmas lunch into the early evening

ECAN is financed largely from member subscriptions. Further income is generated from commissions from projects received by members via the ESPC participation, and a small EAA grant is received annually.

Current office bearers are:

  • Chairman Les Howson (0131) 229 1241
  • Treasurer David Olden (0131) 552-0585

Chair and secretary are elected for a one year period, at the AGM in March of each year.
